Sylvan Lake U18 Second Team (Hub Team)

From:  Sylvan Lake U18 Second Team (Hub Team)

Evening everyone,

Our association like so many other associations has too many players for how many teams we can put together. As of right now I have too many players for one team and not nearly enough for a second team. Currently I have 19 skaters with the chances of getting one or two more from AA and 3 goalies.

Last night I started getting emails from parents from other associations wondering if Sylvan Lake would take them in if they were released. At the time I said no, thinking I had to find homes for my own players not making the SLMHA U18A team. After our board had a discussion, we realized we could support another team if there was enough interest from other associations to find a home for players, they didn't have room for on their own rosters. Here is some information I've put together. If you would like more information, please let me know.

As of right now with not seeing the skill of the players it would be a low tier 3 team and be a full contact division. There would be no evaluations. It would be the first 18 players and 2 goalies to sign up would be on the team. The Sylvan players would have the first right of refusal to play. There will be an 8am Tuesday morning deadline for the out of town players to sign up, to make sure there are enough players. If there aren't enough players, it would give me a chance to find homes for the SLMHA players being released. I want to be able to announce the SLMHA U18A team by Tuesday night. SLMHA will send out a link once we know there is enough interest to outside players. With limited ice available there would only be one practice a week. It would be a weekday night practice. Ice time for games will not be a problem to allocate on the weekends. We have enough ice to make it work.

We at least have one goalie which is a good start. The team would have a maximum roster of 18 skaters and 2 goalies as per CAHL guidelines. There would be reduction in fees because of the once a week practice. The exact cost will be looked into by our admin and treasurer. All players outside of Sylvan Lake we would request for a one year release from their current association.

I really don't like the idea of any of our young athletes not playing the game they love. Especially the U18's as this is the twighlight of their minor hockey careers and they don't have many years left or this is their last year.

Regards,
