RDMH Mentorship Program - Specialty Skills Clinic #6

Developing DefensemenThursday, Feb. 4th

6:00pm-7:00pm - KCB Arena

Attendance is Mandatory for Head Coaches

Recommended for Atom to Midget Coaches (Novice & Dynamite coaches welcome, though). Clinic will cover the following skills for Defensemen:

 

1.       Backward Skating – techniques for efficient stride, crossovers, turns, pivots

2.       Defending vs. the Rush – gap control, reading/playing even strength vs. odd-man rushes

3.       Defensive Zone  - angling, containing, pressuring, stick on puck checking (cues and defending techniques)

4.       Puck Retrieval and Breakout Techniques – quick up, d to d overs, reverses

5.       Neutral Zone Counter Attack Techniques – individual skills and pair tactics

6.       Net Front Play – boxing out, fronting up

7.       Shot Blocking and Stick in Lanes Play

8.       Offensive Zone Blueline Skills – drag & shoot, getting shots on goal from the point, one-timers


 RED DEER MINOR HOCKEY WILL BE TAKING A PROACTIVE APPROACH TO FIGHTING THE COLD AND FLU SEASON.  WE WILL BE DISCONTINUING THE HANDSHAKE AT THE END OF GAMES.  ALL LEAGUES WILL BE NOTIFIED. 

 Teams will be notified when to reinstate.
